Seventeen Purple Heart recipients to be honored at Wenatchee ceremony

Leavenworth, WALocal News

On August 7, the Wenatchee Veterans Hall will honor seventeen local veterans wounded or killed in combat during the second annual Purple Heart ceremony. Scheduled from 3:30 to 5:30 p. m. , the event features a Presentation of Colors by Wenatchee Valley VFW Post 3617 and American Legion Post 10. John Tamngin, Chelan County Veterans Services officer, described last year's event as moving and emphasized the honor of recognizing Purple Heart recipients.

The names of this year's honorees will be added to a plaque in the Hall of Honor alongside 2024 recipients. The Purple Heart, established as the Badge of Military Merit, is the oldest military decoration in the U. S. and recognizes sacrifices made by service members. Additionally, Chelan and Waterville have joined other municipalities in proclaiming themselves Purple Heart Cities, marking a commitment to honor veterans.

Signs indicating this designation will be installed later this year, funded by American Legion Post 10. Recognizing August 7 as a day to honor Purple Heart recipients underscores the community’s commitment to supporting veterans.
