Eastside Rebuilds deconstruction services gives second life to building material

Leavenworth, WALocal News

Eastside Rebuild has initiated deconstruction services to replace traditional demolition methods in Cashmere, allowing for the salvage of reusable materials. The nonprofit reports that deconstruction can save significant waste from landfills, with homeowner Stephen Barnes noting a 73 percent diversion rate from his garage project. This approach aligns with sustainable practices, as it allows for recycling and reuse of building materials. The deconstruction of Barnes' garage cost was comparable to traditional demolition, eliminating disposal fees and equipment costs. Eastside Rebuild also operates a Reuse Building Supply store, selling salvaged items at reduced prices.

The organization emphasizes the environmental benefits of their work, as seen in the 10,000 pounds of material saved from landfills. Their services are available for homes, garages, and agricultural buildings built after 1900. A free salvage analysis is offered to homeowners considering deconstruction projects.
