BLM fire restrictions now in effect for Chelan, Douglas, and Okanogan counties

Leavenworth, WALocal News

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) imposed new fire restrictions in Chelan, Douglas, and Okanogan counties effective July 4, 2025, due to escalating wildfire risks. Prohibited activities include campfires, open flames, and off-road vehicle use, with violators facing potential fines of up to $100,000 and/or one year in prison. Lonnie Newton, Fire Management Officer for the BLM Spokane District, advised visitors to pack essential fire safety equipment like shovels and fire extinguishers. The restrictions are a proactive measure to prevent human-caused wildfires during a critical fire season characterized by dry conditions. BLM manages about 245 million acres of public land, focusing on sustaining its health and productivity for future generations.

This decision reflects a broader fire prevention effort across 19 counties in the region. Public lands users are encouraged to consult online resources for updated fire safety information. The emphasis on compliance highlights the importance of protecting these natural resources amid increasing fire hazards.
