City of Everett Seeks Volunteers for Pro and Con Committees on Property Tax Measure

Everett, WALocal News

The City of Everett is actively recruiting volunteers for pro and con committees to address a potential property tax ballot measure set for the August 6 primary election. This measure aims to generate between $13 million and $20 million annually to maintain essential services and improve the quality of life for residents. Applications for committee positions are due by April 25, 2024, and will be included in the Snohomish County Voter’s Pamphlet. The proposed tax increase is a critical measure to combat a structural deficit exacerbated by a 1% cap on property tax increases, inflation, and heightened demands for city services. If approved, the tax increase, which could add $20 to $35 to the monthly bill of the average Everett homeowner, would take effect on January 1, 2025.

Funds raised would be allocated to vital services such as police, fire, parks, libraries, and social worker teams. The city emphasizes the importance of community involvement in shaping the future of essential services. Interested residents can find more information on the city’s official website.
