Police investigating overpass strike on Highway 1 in Langley

Vancouver, BCLocal News

The BC Highway Patrol is actively investigating a collision involving a box truck that struck the CP Rail overpass on Highway 1 in Langley. According to Cpl. Michael McLaughlin, the incident occurred just before 8 a. m. , prompting a call to police reporting the collision.

The damage to the overpass seems minor, making it challenging to distinguish from past incidents at that location. The truck in question was a flatbed with a large load, raising concerns about height restrictions. Although the driver fled the scene initially, they have since been located and are cooperating with police inquiries. The province's Commercial Vehicle Safety Enforcement is following up with the driver to assess any necessary enforcement actions. McLaughlin also emphasized the legal obligation for drivers to stop following any collision that may have caused damage.

Fortunately, traffic flow in the area remains steady, reflecting typical rush hour conditions.
