New Roundabout Planned for Grandview Drive and 36th Street West

University Place, WALocal News

The City plans to construct a roundabout at 36th Street West and Grandview Drive West this summer to enhance safety at several intersections. An engineering analysis found that the roundabout could eliminate 83 percent of accidents in the area by reducing vehicle speeds and making turns safer. The project will not require additional property acquisition or home condemnation, minimizing community disruption. It will also improve pedestrian safety along Grandview Drive and facilitate safe U-turns. Funded through a $764,000 grant from the State Transportation Improvement Board, the construction is scheduled to begin in June and last approximately six months.

This initiative reflects the City’s commitment to improving road safety and reducing traffic-related incidents. The roundabout design aims to address longstanding safety concerns at this location. For further information, residents can reach out to Kyle Mauren, senior project engineer.
