Grandview Roundabout Officially Opens

University Place, WALocal News

University Place marked the opening of a new roundabout at the intersection of 36th Street West and Grandview Drive West on October 13. The event featured U. P. Mayor Javier Figueroa, Mayor Pro Tem Ed Wood, Council Member Frank Boykin, and State Rep. Mari Leavitt, who played a crucial role in securing state funding.

A $764,000 grant from the State Transportation Improvement Board financed the project, which was completed on budget and ahead of schedule. The roundabout enhances safety for vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians by reducing speeds on Grandview, allowing for safer turns onto 35th, 36th, and 37th Streets. This infrastructure project reflects the city's ongoing commitment to improving public safety and mobility. Residents are encouraged to reach out to senior project engineer Kyle Mauren for further information. Such improvements are vital for local traffic management and community well-being.

The successful completion of the roundabout signifies a positive step in urban planning for University Place.
