High-speed chase ends in arrest after alleged vehicle theft in Tumwater

Following an armed vehicle theft, Kalin W. Laing, 47, was apprehended after a high-speed chase that reached over 100 mph on Interstate 5. The incident unfolded on May 26 when Laing allegedly threatened a couple outside a Tumwater 7-Eleven, forcibly taking their van. Witnesses confirmed that Laing pushed the female victim out of the passenger seat, resulting in her injury. The pursuit involved multiple agencies, including the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office, as Laing struck another vehicle, causing it to flip and block traffic.

Authorities utilized a police K-9 to subdue Laing after he refused to surrender. He was evaluated at a hospital before being booked into the Thurston County Corrections Facility. Laing faces charges including first-degree robbery and eluding police, reflecting the serious nature of the offenses. The incident highlights ongoing issues of vehicle theft and violent crime in the region.
