Planning Commission endorses comprehensive plan for Tumwater
The Tumwater Planning Commission approved an updated comprehensive plan on November 10, following a public hearing that saw two attendees. This comprehensive plan, which serves as the city’s growth roadmap, is being updated as mandated by the Washington State Growth Management Act, which requires such plans to be revised every decade. The update will integrate recommendations from the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, particularly regarding conservation and land use. Community Development Director Brad Medrud highlighted the importance of avoiding development in critical areas and enhancing drainage systems, while some recommendations were deemed too expensive to implement. The plan also includes elements addressing housing, transportation, and utilities, ensuring it reflects current community priorities.
After incorporating agreed-upon suggestions, the final plan will be forwarded to the city council for review and adoption. This process underscores the city's commitment to sustainable growth and environmental stewardship.
