Tumwater School District sets stricter standards for public comment in board meetings

Tumwater, WALocal News

Tumwater School District has announced stricter standards for public comment during board meetings, effective May 14, 2025. The new guidelines require a review and approval process for sign-ups to ensure a diverse range of perspectives on agenda topics. This change moves away from the previous practice of accepting only the first ten sign-ups, aiming to enhance the quality of discussions. Priority will be given to comments aligned with the meeting agenda, allowing the district to make the most of the 30-minute public comment period. Attendees must sign up by 9 AM on the day of the meeting to receive timely notifications about their selection status.

Those not selected to speak can still share their views by emailing the school board. The district emphasizes the importance of varied topics, particularly regarding action items. The next regular board meeting is set for May 21.
