Tumwater Middle School has initiated a Title IX investigation into allegations of student-to-student sexual harassment after a protest on May 16 raised concerns among students. The district hired an independent investigator to ensure a thorough review of the complaints. Principal John Neal emphasized that there have been no reported incidents of rape, countering protest signs that referenced sexual assault. The Tumwater Police Department monitored the protest and confirmed no new criminal complaints had been filed. Neal communicated safety measures to parents, including a closed campus policy to maintain order and confidentiality during the investigation.

He reiterated the school's commitment to addressing unwanted advances and ensuring student safety.
