Developer discusses benefits of Salish Landing

Tumwater, WALocal News

Bar Holdings presented its plans for the Salish Landing project to the Tumwater City Council, focusing on the infrastructure improvements and job creation it promises. Mike Brewer noted that over 2,200 households within a two-mile radius lack access to basic amenities, making this development crucial for the community's needs. The project is expected to generate $303,000 in municipal taxes and create 227 direct jobs. Brewer emphasized that the project would also facilitate the extension of water and sewer services, potentially saving costs for the city. The proposed land swap with Thurston County is essential, as current zoning only permits limited residential development.

The Thurston Economic Development Council's analysis supports the project, estimating an overall economic value of $40 million. Brewer and his partner, Rob Rice, aim to gain council support, highlighting the project's significance as a legacy endeavor. They have also engaged with Intercity Transit to discuss potential transit services to the site.
