Public facilities district seeks applicants for two vacancies on board

The Capital Area Regional Public Facilities District Board (CAR-PFD) is actively seeking applicants to fill two vacant district-wide seats, with terms expiring in 2028 and 2029. The cities of Lacey, Olympia, and Tumwater, along with Thurston County, are responsible for appointing candidates for these full-term positions. Notably, individuals holding elected positions in the appointing jurisdictions are ineligible for these roles. The CAR-PFD Board, which consists of seven members, has a critical fiduciary responsibility to ensure the proper use of sales tax revenue that is collected and distributed for regional event centers. The board meets annually, typically in the fall, to review financial statements and provide a public report on fund utilization.

Applications will be accepted until the vacancies are filled, with a review process scheduled for mid-June. The CAR-PFD was established as a municipal corporation in 2003 to finance bond payments for constructing regional event centers, including Lacey’s Regional Athletic Complex and Olympia’s Hands on Children’s Museum.
