The Milken Institute’s 2025 Best-Performing Cities Index has recognized Olympia-Tumwater, WA, for its impressive rise to eighth place among Tier 1 large cities, reflecting its robust economic performance. The report highlights that the metropolitan area boasts the fastest-growing high-tech sector in the nation, with a staggering 111% growth in high-tech GDP from 2018 to 2023. Additionally, Olympia-Tumwater ranked seventh nationally for one-year wage growth, with a 9. 6% increase from 2022 to 2023, showcasing its thriving labor market. Despite these economic successes, the region grapples with severe housing affordability challenges, being ranked second to last among Tier 1 cities in that category.
