Boosters donating artificial turf for Black Hills High School baseball field
Black Hills High School will enhance its baseball field with artificial turf donated by local boosters, as approved by the Tumwater School District Board. This initiative will replace approximately 3,005 square feet of infield dirt and install a new chain link fence. Facilities Director Mel Murray explained that the project targets high-traffic areas, including the bases and pitcher's mound, to improve playability. Principal Dave Myers noted the enhancements will help the field meet standards comparable to those in Chehalis, Shelton, and Olympia. A long-standing local contractor will supervise the construction, which includes engineering plans for stormwater design.
The district will take responsibility for maintaining the turf, as no usage terms were included in the donation. Additional turf will be laid for outdoor bullpens and batting cages, facilitating year-round use. The improvements are scheduled for completion by the spring baseball season in March 2026.
