Tumwater committee endorses participation in LOTTs reclaimed water demonstration project

Tumwater, WALocal News

Tumwater's Public Works Committee endorsed an interlocal agreement with LOTT Clean Water Alliance for a pioneering Class A+ reclaimed water demonstration project. This initiative focuses on recycling used water into drinkable water by exploring advanced treatments at the Budd Inlet Treatment Plant. Dan Smith, the city's Water Resources Director, noted that reclaimed water is among the top options for expanding the water supply, alongside conservation efforts. Under the project, LOTT will test two treatment systems: one using reverse osmosis and the other utilizing carbon filtration. The project involves substantial public outreach to familiarize the community with the new water source.

LOTT will bear the majority of the project costs, which are projected to exceed $2 million. Olympia has also committed to the project, contributing $50,000, while Tumwater will allocate $30,000 annually for two years. The Tumwater City Council is set to review the agreement on November 3 as part of its consent agenda.
