Water utility projects on tap in Tumwater

Tumwater, WALocal News

Tumwater plans to initiate two significant water utility projects in 2027 as part of its updated Capital Facilities Plan, which covers projects from 2026 to 2031. The first project includes a $1. 2 million upgrade to a booster pump on C Street, which will replace the existing pump and roof while modernizing the control system. The second project focuses on installing two to four deep monitoring wells in the Bush Wellfield area, costing around $150,000, to improve water quality monitoring and track seasonal fluctuations. Dan Smith, director of the city's water resources and sustainability department, noted that these new wells will help detect contaminants deeper in the aquifer, beyond the reach of existing shallower wells.

Design and planning for both projects are set to begin in 2027, with construction expected to start in 2028. The updated Capital Facilities Plan outlines a total of 14 projects with an estimated cost of over $50 million, reflecting the city's commitment to enhancing its water infrastructure. These initiatives aim to ensure long-term water sustainability and safety for Tumwater residents.
