Tumwater School District officials review school resource officer contract

The Tumwater School District Board of Directors intends to adopt a crucial agreement with the City of Tumwater for the 2026–28 School Resource Officer (SRO) Program. This initiative will deploy two police officers to serve Tumwater High School, Bush Middle School, Black Hills High School, and Tumwater Middle School, enhancing safety across the district. Assistant Superintendent Meagan Dawson emphasized that the agreement reflects the district's commitment to student safety and compliance with state laws. The SROs will also train school staff and community partners in threat assessment and crisis response. The total cost for the district will be $610,430, with the city covering the salaries for the SRO assigned to Tumwater High School.

This partnership aims to create a positive school environment and strengthen community ties. The agreement will take effect on January 1, 2026, and remain valid until December 31, 2028. Compliance with state legislation on school safety is a significant aspect of this initiative.
