Concerns raised about proposed 24-unit residential development in Tumwater

Tumwater, WALocal News

A public hearing in Tumwater addressed concerns over a proposed 24-unit residential development by Tenino Land Company. The project seeks approval for a planned unit development and binding site plan, allowing deviations from standard zoning regulations. Residents expressed apprehension about the proposed reduction of a wetland buffer zone from 150 feet to 110 feet, which could impact local ecology. Tumwater Senior Planner Alex Baruch supported the project, stating it aligns with the city's comprehensive plan. Developer representatives assured that stormwater management would minimize impacts on wetlands.

However, community members pointed out potential changes in hydrology and vegetation health due to new impervious surfaces. The project also involves cutting down 40 trees, raising questions about adherence to city tree retention requirements. Concerns about compliance with airport regulations in the overlay zone were also highlighted during the hearing.
