The Tumwater City Council approved the creation of a communications department on September 2, promoting Communications Manager Jason Wettstein to communications director. City Administrator Lisa Parks highlighted the need for better communication with residents, citing a survey that revealed confusion regarding city finances. Some council members questioned the timing of the decision, particularly with a new mayor on the horizon, but the council voted unanimously in favor. Wettstein's promotion includes a salary increase of up to $50,000, which Parks confirmed is within the city’s budget.
