Former Tumwater Mayor Peter Fluetsch dies at 88

Peter Fluetsch, former mayor of Tumwater, died on August 16, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on July 20, 1937, in Olympia, he graduated from North Thurston High School and started Sunset Air with his wife in 1976. Before his tenure as mayor from 1990 to 1993, he contributed to local governance through the Tumwater Planning Commission and City Council. The City of Tumwater expressed that his passing is a profound loss for the community. Fluetsch was instrumental in founding the Thurston County Economic Development Council in 1981 and was awarded the JT Quigg Lifetime Achievement Award in 2009 for his community commitment.

His legacy includes fostering a vibrant economy in Thurston County. He is survived by his wife, two children, five grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Fluetsch's impact on local business and governance will be remembered by many.
