Tumwater moves forward with roundabout on Linwood and 2nd avenues

Tumwater, WALocal News

Tumwater's Public Works Committee has authorized bids for a roundabout at Linwood Avenue and 2nd Avenue to improve traffic safety and flow. The current design, which is stop-controlled, has led to confusion among drivers, prompting the need for the change. The project includes necessary sidewalk and stormwater upgrades and resurfacing on 2nd Avenue, with an overall estimated cost of $3. 5 million to $4. 3 million.

Funding will come from the Washington State Department of Transportation's Safe Routes to School Program and various city sources. City engineer Ryan Blaser indicated that construction could start by the end of the year, with a potential two-month closure of the intersection. Ongoing coordination with emergency responders and local transit will facilitate necessary adjustments during the closure. This effort aligns with the city's commitment to improving safety for pedestrians and cyclists. The project is significant as it addresses long-standing traffic issues in the area while enhancing community accessibility.
