Woman arrested for allegedly assaulting officer, trespassing

Tumwater, WALocal News

On July 10, Tumwater police arrested 37-year-old Stephanie Brooks after she allegedly trespassed and assaulted an officer. The incident began when a homeowner reported Brooks trying to enter his garage and making disturbing statements while he was outside with his young daughter. Officers found her nearby, displaying agitation that suggested she might be under the influence or in a mental health crisis. When officers attempted to detain her for trespassing, Brooks resisted and kicked one officer, resulting in minor injuries. The officer reported that the kick caused pain and discomfort hours later.

To prevent further injury, officers used a WRAP restraint device on Brooks. Emergency medical personnel evaluated her before she was cleared for transport. Brooks faces charges of third-degree assault and second-degree criminal trespass at the Thurston County Corrections Facility.
