Main play structure removed at Pioneer Park in Tumwater

Tumwater, WALocal News

Tumwater's Parks & Recreation Department removed the main play structure at Pioneer Park due to safety concerns after staff found it did not meet city standards. The structure, which is over 25 years old, exhibited significant wear, including rotting posts and loose deck boards, resulting in instability. Parks Manager Matt Patton noted that rust on railings further raised safety risks for children. The department could not repair the structure in-house due to the unavailability of specialized replacement parts. Marketing Specialist Marisa Worden acknowledged the inconvenience to families but stressed that community safety is paramount.

The monkey bars and swings remain operational at the park, located at 5801 Henderson Blvd. SE. Tumwater offers other playground options for families. For further inquiries, residents can contact the department directly.
