Tumwater proclaims Parks and Recreation Month, as staff readies for July 4 activities

Tumwater City Council proclaimed July as Parks and Recreation Month to kick off Fourth of July celebrations. Parks & Recreation Director Chuck Denney received the proclamation at the July 1 council meeting. The Independence Day Parade, featuring 80 entries, will start at 11 a. m. and end at Linderson Way and Israel Road.

Following the parade, the Tumwater Artesian Family Festival will welcome visitors at 6 p. m. , showcasing music and family-friendly activities. Denney noted that the city's Fourth of July festivities attract crowds nearly equal to Tumwater's population. He highlighted the economic benefits of parks and recreation programs, which enhance property values and attract tourism.

The Thunder Valley Fireworks show, sponsored by the Nisqually Indian Tribe, will commence at 10:15 p. m. and is advertised as the biggest in the county. The proclamation aligns with the U. S.

House of Representatives' designation of July as National Park and Recreation Month.
