The Wheeling Symphony Orchestra (WSO) will conclude its season with a concert on Thursday, celebrating 95 years of musical excellence and community engagement. This final performance will feature a community choir, made possible through a $1,000 Wheeling Heritage Partnership Grant, which has allowed 40 local singers to rehearse together since January. WSO Director Sonja Thoms expressed excitement about the choir's multigenerational makeup, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in the concert. The showcase will also include the world premiere of “Where I’m From,” a piece composed by West Liberty Professor Matthew Harder with lyrics by Christina Fisanick. Additionally, Elisa Kohanski, a principal cellist with the WSO, will perform a unique piece inspired by her travels across all seven continents.

Former WSO Director Andre Raphel will return as a guest conductor to lead Ravel’s “La Valse. ” This concert not only marks the end of the season but also aims to honor the community's support and legacy while looking ahead to the future of the orchestra. Tickets can be purchased starting at $19, reflecting WSO's commitment to inclusivity and community engagement.
