Edison lighting upgrade nears completion
The Edison Local Board of Education discussed the completion of a $330,000 safety lighting project during their Oct. 21 meeting. Superintendent Bill Beattie reported that Edison High School's upgrades are finalized, while Stanton and John Gregg Elementary schools are expected to complete their improvements by the end of October. Funded by a $338,403 U. S.
Department of Justice grant, the project features enhanced lighting, metal detectors, and electronic access systems aimed at increasing safety across district facilities. The installation of LED flat panel lights will promote a positive learning environment and improve overall visibility in classrooms and outdoor areas. Principal Kodi Peterson emphasized the value of morning meetings in building classroom community and enhancing social skills among students. The board also approved several staffing changes, including the hiring of a registered behavior technician to assist students with behavioral issues. This initiative aligns with the district's focus on social-emotional learning, with the 7 Mindsets curriculum now being implemented in elementary schools.
The lighting improvements will bolster safety during school events and deter unlawful activities around the schools.
