Oakland Presbyterian to celebrate 150 years

Oakland Presbyterian Church in Weirton will celebrate its 150th anniversary with events on August 2-3. The celebration begins with a meet-and-greet at 4 p. m. on August 2, featuring finger foods, entertainment by singer Jonathan White, and DiCarlo’s Pizza. On August 3, Rev.

Randy Krebs will lead a church service at 11 a. m. , followed by a luncheon in Friendship Hall provided by church women. Established in 1875, the church initially had a modest membership of 20, which grew to 45 in 1878 with the appointment of its first pastor. The church has undergone numerous renovations, including the installation of a new organ in 1998 and a baby grand piano in 2001, reflecting its ongoing commitment to maintaining a welcoming environment.

Significant structural improvements over the years include adding a basement and modern facilities, which have supported the church's growth to over 130 members by 1963. This anniversary not only celebrates the church's history but also its enduring presence in the community. The events and renovations underscore the church's vital role in fostering community spirit and engagement.
