Tacoma City Manager Elizabeth Pauli has announced her retirement, effective July 1, 2025, which will prompt a leadership transition within the city. In her heartfelt statement, Pauli expressed gratitude for the honor of serving Tacoma and highlighted the collaborative efforts that have contributed to the city’s progress. She affirmed her dedication to ensuring a seamless transition, working closely with Mayor Woodards and the city council. The council is expected to discuss the selection process for an interim city manager during their study session on January 28. Pauli joined Tacoma's city government in 1998 as chief assistant city attorney and has since held various positions, including acting city attorney and city attorney.

Her appointment as interim city manager in 2017 made her the first female to hold that position in Tacoma's history. Throughout her tenure, Pauli has prioritized advancing the mayor's and city council's policies, making her departure a momentous occasion for the community. The city will now embark on the search for her successor, marking a new chapter in Tacoma's governance.
