Free app combines adventure, nature and history

Tacoma, WALocal News

The Agents of Discovery app invites Tacoma families to engage with nature and local history this summer through interactive augmented reality experiences. Available for free on smartphones and tablets, the app transforms park visits into educational adventures. Running from July 1 to August 31, the Puget Sound Explorers campaign encourages users to complete missions for a chance to win prizes such as passes to regional attractions. Michele Cardinaux, a supervisor at the Tacoma Nature Center, underscores the app's potential to foster community connections. Participating parks include Tacoma Nature Center, Lincoln Park, and more, with additional missions available from adjacent jurisdictions.

The app requires no data or Wi-Fi once missions are downloaded and accommodates multiple languages for accessibility. It also features voice-to-text technology to enhance usability for all users. This initiative promotes outdoor activity while educating participants about their local environment and history.
