Two dead, three injured after speeding car drives off Edmonds ferry dock

Shoreline, WALocal News

Two individuals died and three were injured after a Mini Cooper, pursued by the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office, drove off the Edmonds-Kingston ferry dock late Tuesday night. The vehicle, initially spotted driving recklessly on Interstate 5, reached speeds over 120 mph, prompting deputies to initiate a chase. The pursuit ended when the driver crashed through barriers at the ferry terminal, landing upside down in Puget Sound. Three occupants were rescued from the water and transported to Harborview Medical Center, while a dive team recovered two deceased passengers. The driver, a 29-year-old man from Tulalip, survived along with a 30-year-old female passenger from Auburn and a 38-year-old male passenger from Federal Way.

The Washington State Patrol confirmed that drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash and is conducting the investigation. Washington State Ferries temporarily suspended service due to law enforcement activity but resumed operations early Wednesday morning. This incident highlights ongoing concerns about reckless driving and the dangers it poses to both occupants and the public.
