Pedestrian struck by train in Edmonds Sunday

Shoreline, WALocal News

A pedestrian died after being hit by a Burlington Northern Santa Fe freight train on the Edmonds waterfront on June 15, 2025. The Edmonds Police department closed the area for four hours, which disrupted ferry services and left beachgoers stranded. Photographer Lee Lageschulte and her husband used the time to wait at Arnie's, one of the few accessible businesses. Washington State Ferries canceled multiple sailings in response to the incident, affecting travel plans for many. The train resumed service at 6:10 PM, and ferry operations restarted shortly thereafter.

Police stated that no additional details would be released until the medical examiner has completed their investigation. The Snohomish County medical examiner typically does not disclose reports to the public. Investigators continue to assess the situation as the community deals with the aftermath of the tragic event.
