AG Brown Washington will receive as much as 105 million from settlement with Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family

Shoreline, WALocal News

Attorney General Nick Brown announced a landmark $7. 4 billion settlement involving Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family, with all 55 attorneys general participating. This settlement represents the largest financial resolution related to the opioid crisis in U. S. history.

Washington state anticipates receiving up to $105. 6 million over the next 15 years to bolster addiction treatment, prevention, and recovery efforts. Brown stated that the agreement will provide vital resources to improve the lives of Washingtonians affected by the crisis. The settlement also dissolves the Sacklers' control of Purdue, preventing them from selling opioids in the U. S.

Most funds will be distributed within the first three years, split evenly between state and local governments. This funding must focus on combating the opioid epidemic, ensuring that communities receive direct support. To date, Washington state has recovered nearly $1. 29 billion from opioid-related settlements, reflecting ongoing efforts to address this public health crisis.
