Shoreline, WALocal News

Over 2,000 protestors gathered at Edmonds' Civic Field for a rally featuring keynote speaker Rick Steves and local leaders, including State Sen. Marko Liias and Edmonds City Councilmember Susan Paine. Emcee Judi Gladstone articulated her frustration with the U. S. administration, focusing on recent immigration raids and the extravagant military parade celebrating the president's birthday, which cost over $45 million.

“I’m angry, I’m scared, I’m frustrated and I’m ashamed of what is happening in our country,” she declared. The rally aimed to promote democracy and encourage civic engagement among attendees. Following the main event, around 300 people proceeded to the Opera House to participate in songs of resistance, further emphasizing their commitment to activism. This rally is part of a growing trend of local activism addressing national policies and social issues. The participation of diverse speakers, including public health experts, highlights the rally's multifaceted approach to advocacy.

Such gatherings may influence local and national discussions on democracy and immigration policy.
