Shoreline gets heartburn from 145th costs and roundabout simulator

Shoreline, WALocal News

Shoreline City Council approved an additional $7. 5 million for the delayed 145th Street Project, bringing the total cost to nearly $50 million. The project has experienced 126 working days of delays due to unexpected utility relocations and additional permit requirements from the City of Seattle. Councilmember Scully criticized the situation, stating, “We are fixing Seattle's road for them using our money. ” Utility companies are liable for up to $3.

5 million of the cost increases, yet the city still anticipates a $4. 5 million funding shortfall. Councilmember Pobee questioned why the city is absorbing these costs, labeling the increases as excessive. To help drivers adapt to the new roundabouts, the city commissioned a $66,500 simulator for use at City Hall and community events. Councilmembers voiced concern over the simulator's value amidst rising project costs.

The project is expected to be completed by May 2026.
