Shorewood Track Field - Records fall and a new State Champ

Shorewood High School's track and field team displayed impressive skills at the State meet, achieving notable rankings with the girls placing 9th and the boys 10th in the 3A classification. Ava Enriquez distinguished herself by winning the State Championship in pole vault, clearing 12'6" and breaking her own school record for the fourth consecutive year. Her journey included a 5th place finish in 9th grade, 2nd place in 10th and 11th grades, culminating in her championship title as a senior. Hanna Bruno also made headlines by setting a new school record in the 800m, surpassing the previous record from 2011. The girls' 4x400m relay team broke a record that had stood since 1989, demonstrating their remarkable improvement.

The competition was held in Tacoma under varying weather conditions, yet the athletes performed admirably. Coaches Paul Villanueva and Joel Reese commended the athletes for their efforts and dedication to representing Shorewood Track & Field. The event highlighted the strength and potential of the Shorewood athletes on a state level.
