Letter to the Editor Vote Yes for Shoreline Schools by August 5, 2025

Shoreline, WALocal News

Shoreline School District, which excels with a graduation rate of 91. 8%, faces a $6. 5 million budget deficit due to significant gaps in state funding. Since 2020, the district has lost $132 million, impacting essential services like special education and staffing. Multiple audits indicate that without increased revenue, the district must implement drastic cuts, risking educational quality.

Voters are urged to approve a levy by August 5, 2025, to safeguard these vital programs and support diverse student needs. The proposed tax rate will decrease in 2026 to $3. 13 per $1,000, down from $3. 21 in 2025, benefiting taxpayers while ensuring funding continuity. This measure is pivotal in maintaining class sizes and preventing staff reductions amidst rising inflation and underfunding.

Shoreline and Lake Forest Park residents have historically supported public education, which remains a key factor in attracting young families. The community's commitment to education is essential for fostering a well-prepared society.
