Message from WSP Chief John R. Batiste on Verdict in the Benitez-Santana Trial

Shoreline, WALocal News

Trooper Christopher Gadd was tragically killed on March 2, 2024, when Raul Benitez-Santana struck his vehicle while driving over 100 miles per hour and under the influence. A jury convicted Benitez-Santana of vehicular homicide and vehicular assault, a decision welcomed by the Washington State Patrol as it removes a dangerous driver from the streets. Gadd dedicated his life to law enforcement, focusing on traffic safety and making every stop count. The Washington State Patrol publicly thanked the residents of Washington for their support during this time of mourning. Although the jury's decision cannot replace the loss of Gadd, it offers some solace to his family, including his widow and young daughter.

The community remembers Gadd as a dedicated and courageous trooper who served with honor. His legacy will endure among those who knew him and served alongside him. The case underscores the ongoing issue of impaired driving and its tragic consequences.
