Dr. Sandra J. Valenciano appointed as Health Officer for Public Health Seattle King County

Dr. Sandra J. Valenciano will join Public Health — Seattle & King County as Health Officer on August 4, appointed by Director Dr. Faisal Khan. Valenciano previously served as District Health Director and CEO at DeKalb Public Health in Georgia, where she oversaw public health services for over 780,000 residents in a multilingual community.

She successfully led the development of a five-year strategic plan and improved community partnerships. Her experience at the CDC's Epidemic Intelligence Service included managing domestic outbreak responses and analyzing national immunization data. As a board-certified physician with an MD in internal medicine and a Master in Public Health, she is well-equipped to guide the department's medical and scientific policies. Public Health — Seattle & King County focuses on health equity and community well-being through various services, including disease prevention and healthcare for vulnerable populations. Dr.

Alice Tin will continue as interim Health Officer until Valenciano's start date. Her leadership is anticipated to bolster the department's efforts in addressing public health challenges effectively.
