Shoreline, WALocal News

The "Accessible Adventures: a Disabled Hiker's Guide to 5 Washington State Parks" has been launched to provide crucial accessibility details for five parks in King County, including Lake Sammamish and Dash Point. Available as a free PDF download, the guide aims to enhance existing ADA information offered by state parks. Each park entry features an overview, suggested activities, and detailed accessibility information on aspects like parking, restrooms, and trails. This initiative was developed by Syren Nagakyrie of Disabled Hikers, with funding and collaboration from the Washington State Parks Foundation. The guide is a pioneering resource within the Washington State Parks system and aims to set a precedent for improved accessibility information for the disability community.

It is designed to assist individuals with disabilities in planning their outdoor experiences in Washington State Parks. The guide's comprehensive approach may encourage other park agencies to follow suit. The availability of this resource highlights a growing recognition of the need for inclusive outdoor opportunities.
