Shoreline Community College Jazz Ensemble placed 2nd in the college division at the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival

The Shoreline Community College Jazz Ensemble claimed 2nd place in the college division at the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival, held from April 15-18, 2025, at the University of Idaho. Ensemble leader Professor Jeff Kashiwa praised the group's age diversity, which includes members from senior citizens to high school students, and their commitment to rehearsals during spring break. He stated, “We put the Community into Shoreline Community College! ” The festival is recognized as one of the largest and oldest educational jazz festivals globally, showcasing over 400 student performances and attracting a dozen world-class jazz artists. In addition, nearly 100 workshops and clinics provided invaluable educational opportunities for attendees.

Kashiwa's remarks underscore the ensemble's dedication to music and community engagement. This year's festival honored the contributions of jazz music and the legacy of Lionel Hampton. The performance reflects the college's commitment to fostering a love for jazz and supporting students' artistic growth.
