In Loving Memory of Ken Noreen (19422025)

Ken Noreen, a renowned music educator, passed away on April 22, 2025, at home with family. He dedicated 48 years to music education, notably serving as band director at Shorecrest High School and Shoreline Community College for 24 years each. Noreen was a prominent figure in the Washington music community, serving as President of the Washington Music Educators Association from 1986 to 1988 and earning induction into its Hall of Fame. His commitment to excellence earned him several awards, including the Christa McAuliffe Award for Educational Leadership from the State of Washington and the Shoreline Community College Student Success Award. He played a crucial role in establishing the Shoreline Arts Council and the Shoreline Breakfast Rotary Club, demonstrating his dedication to community service.

Noreen also left a mark on public music, directing for the Seattle Supersonics and the Husky Marching Band. A celebration of his life will occur in June, where family and friends will honor his impactful contributions. In his memory, a music scholarship has been created with the Shoreline Community College Foundation.

Despite these challenges, the athletes demonstrated resilience and completed the race with enthusiasm. The team's first official meet is scheduled for September 10 at McCollum Park.
