Shoreline, WALocal News

Northwest Folklife has officially unveiled "Ikigai" as the cultural focus for its 54th Annual Festival, set to take place from May 23-26, 2025, at Seattle Center in Seattle, WA. This year's theme delves into the Japanese philosophy of Ikigai, which encourages individuals to find their life's purpose amid uncertainty. Attendees can expect an array of cultural expressions, with performances in music and dance, alongside crafts and food representing the region's diverse communities. Artistic Director Benjamin Hunter highlights that the festival's mission aligns well with the theme, aiming to foster reflection on what truly gives life meaning. Ikigai is the fourth chapter in a five-part cultural focus series, following prior themes such as "Metamorphosis," "Lagom," and "Meraki.

" Recent years have brought significant expansions to the festival, including new features like the Makers Space and Kuleana Corridor. The event not only celebrates cultural traditions but also supports artist compensation and community engagement. For updates on performances and volunteering, visitors can check the Northwest Folklife website and follow their social media channels.
