High school students invited to compete in Youth Science Contest

Shoreline, WALocal News

The Washington State Department of Health is excited to announce the fourth annual Youth Science Contest, inviting high school students statewide to engage in meaningful analysis of health and environmental data. This contest not only enhances students' science and communication skills but also allows them to make a tangible impact in their communities. Students can choose from three distinct project tracks: health science, where they analyze data for patterns and disparities; science communication, which focuses on raising awareness about important issues; and program and policy design, aimed at improving local programs through data-driven proposals. Each project must include WTN data, an equity-focused analysis, and visually clear communication. The submission deadline is set for April 15, 2025, providing participants with two months to complete their work.

Winners will be determined by a panel of public health experts, with announcements planned for late May. Successful participants will receive a plaque and public recognition, along with opportunities for mentorship to enhance their projects further. This initiative underscores WTN's commitment to making public health data accessible and promoting equity across Washington.
