The arrest of Joseph Andrew Jacquez marks a significant development in the cold case of Mary Ann Daniels, who was murdered in her Everett home in 1989. On January 25, 2025, Detective Susan Logothetti, in collaboration with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, identified Jacquez using advanced DNA technology and forensic genetic genealogy. This method pinpointed Jacquez as the suspect through biological evidence left at the crime scene, including DNA from the murder weapon. Mary Ann Daniels was a 33-year-old disabled woman whose tragic murder left a lasting impact on the community. Chief John DeRousse praised the dedication of the investigators, emphasizing the importance of pursuing justice for victims of violent crimes.

The arrest comes nearly 36 years after the crime, reflecting the advancements in forensic science that can help solve cold cases. Jacquez is now in custody in Clark County, Nevada, and will be extradited to face charges in Snohomish County. This case serves as a reminder of law enforcement's commitment to justice and the evolving role of technology in solving crimes.
