Human Services Provider Transportation Forum Highlights Transportation Needs in Shoreline

Shoreline, WALocal News

The transportation forum held at Shoreline City Hall served as a platform for human service agency representatives and transportation experts to discuss critical transportation resources available in King and Snohomish Counties. With a focus on vulnerable demographics, including the elderly, low-income individuals, and people with disabilities, the event highlighted existing public transportation systems such as Sound Transit and METRO, as well as nonprofit programs like the Hyde Shuttle. This shuttle service, catering to seniors and disabled residents, has received positive feedback, prompting discussions about its potential expansion to areas like Lake City and North Seattle. Participants engaged with panelists during a Q&A session, gaining insights into advocacy for enhanced transportation services. The forum also previewed future developments, including the introduction of Bus Rapid Transit in 2013 and proposed light rail expansion by 2023.

The North King County Mobility Coalition was announced, aiming to improve coordination among transportation providers and human service agencies. Sponsored by several local coalitions, the event underscored the importance of addressing the diverse transportation needs of the community. For further information, attendees were encouraged to contact the King County Mobility Coalition's Mobility Manager.
