Health Literacy Workshop - free at the Senior Activity Center

Shoreline, WALocal News

On January 23, 2025, the Shoreline-Lake Forest Park Senior Activity Center will host a free Health Literacy Workshop designed to enhance seniors' abilities to discern health information online. Led by Susan Banks, MLIS, this hands-on workshop will focus on identifying misinformation and navigating trustworthy health resources, including MedlinePlus, managed by the National Library of Medicine. The session will conclude with a Q&A segment, allowing participants to clarify doubts and practice search techniques. Attendees are encouraged to bring personal devices for interactive learning, although a limited number of tablets will be available for those without. With space at a premium, interested individuals are urged to reserve their spots by contacting the senior center directly.

This initiative aims to address the pressing need for improved health literacy, particularly among older adults, who may be more susceptible to misinformation. By equipping seniors with these vital skills, the workshop seeks to empower them in making informed health decisions. Such community-oriented programs play a significant role in fostering a healthier, more informed population.
