The Shoreline Historical Museum is set to kick off a year-long planning process in anticipation of the nation's 250th anniversary on July 4, 2026, with an inaugural event on January 25, 2025. The event will feature a screening of a conversation with renowned historian Manisha Sinha, who will discuss themes from her acclaimed book on Reconstruction, described as an "Unfinished Revolution. " This initiative aims to engage the community in developing meaningful programming that reflects on American history and its relevance today. The focus on the Reconstruction era highlights critical themes recommended by the American Association for State and Local History (AASLH) for understanding America's founding. Participants will have the opportunity to share their perspectives and ideas, emphasizing inclusivity and collaborative learning.

The museum will provide coffee and snacks, fostering a welcoming environment for discussion. This free event invites everyone to contribute to the dialogue, regardless of their expertise in history. As the nation prepares for this significant milestone, understanding the complexities of its past will be crucial in shaping a hopeful future.
