Pickleball license plates

Shoreline, WALocal News

Washington state has launched a specialty license plate featuring pickleball, which is recognized as the state's official sport. The Department of Licensing revealed the new plate, designed to reflect early 20th-century aesthetics with white lettering on a black background. After three years of advocacy led by the Seattle Metro Pickleball Association, the design is now a reality. Kate Van Gent, the association's vice president, shared her enthusiasm for seeing their efforts come to fruition. Alongside the pickleball plate, the state will introduce additional themed plates, including "Protect Our Pollinators," as well as designs honoring Mount St.

Helens and Smokey Bear. The initiative is part of a broader trend, as Washington currently offers around 70 specialty license plates. This move highlights the increasing recognition and popularity of pickleball in the region. The new plates are expected to promote the sport and raise awareness of environmental issues through the upcoming themed designs.
