"Nature's Repose," a new public art installation, now graces the south end of Horizon View Park, featuring a two-sided concrete bench adorned with colorful glass mosaics. Artist Melissa Cole, inspired by the local flora and fauna, invites visitors to sit and appreciate the artwork, which also includes representations of a swallowtail butterfly and a bee. The bench's mosaics were crafted by community members of all ages during a collaborative event at Third Place Commons, emphasizing the role of local engagement in public art. Revenue from the Secret Gardens of Lake Forest Park Garden Tour has played a pivotal role in funding such projects, with over $150,000 raised for public art and community programs since the tour's inception. The next garden tour will take place on June 21, 2026, ensuring continued support for local art initiatives.

Cole's commitment to community involvement reflects the growing trend of integrating public art with local ecosystems and community identity. This installation not only beautifies the park but also fosters a sense of ownership and pride among residents.
